This dance was part of an annual event celebrating the Cook islands “Constitution Day” that takes place each August 4th. Since the Cooks are located south of the equator seasons are reversed from the USA making August the middle of their winter. Our (documentary) notes say it was 79 degrees & 80% humidity...a typical Manihiki winter day! The majority of people living on the atoll were present. The dance performance was as professional as anything (of it’s type) you’d see. All costumes were handmaid by the villagers.Movie.htmlshapeimage_4_link_0
