Husking Coconuts. A daily task as common to people on Manihiki as making coffee would be in the US. Coconuts are what everyone drinks. The liquid is clear as water, slightly sweet with a very mild coconut flavor.

I’m hunting wild pig in a remote area across the lagoon. Pig is traditionally cooked in an underground pit. It’s wrapped in banana leaves and placed atop lava rocks that were heated in a fire. The pig is covered with coconut fronds and left to slowly cook for most of the day. A special treat following a successful hunt.
